The town of Marsa, situated in the innermost creek of Grand Harbour, is the nerve centre for the Islands' shipping and engineering industries. It is also known for sports. The Marsa Sports Complex, housing a modern horseracing course, the Marsa Sports Club with its 18-hole golf course and the National Athletics Stadium can all be found here.
This town can be divided into two: the residential, which is similar in feel to neighbouring Hamrun, and a port, an area that was previously the location of a coal run power station.
Marsa is very central and is walking distance to Valletta Waterfront and Marsa Park and Ride (Bus Terminus). Properties in Marsa are priced lower than the average for Malta.
