DESCRIPTION

Not far from the village square is this compact maisonette, spread out over two floors. Xewkija is not only Gozo's oldest village, but it is known for its church, the Rotunda of Xewkija. The church's dome is the highest in Gozo and the third-highest unsupported dome in the world.

The image above is of the Rotunda's dome, not of this maisonette or its views.

Once completed, this home will have its kitchen, living and dining area on the ground floor in an open-plan layout. A staircase leads up to the first floor.

Beyond the staircase will be a small hallway, which could be converted into a laundry space, storage space, or perhaps a book nook for the avid reader. There will be a bathroom to the left, a bedroom ahead with a balcony and the second bedroom to the right. This snug duplex maisonette will make a cosy home for a small family.

This maisonette forms part of a project which is estimated to be in shell form by the end of December 2021 and completely finished by June 2022. Also available are optional garages.

ABOUT XEWKIJA, GOZO

Xewkija, Gozo’s oldest village, is located between Ghajnsielem and the capital city. It is a quiet and laid-back village.

The village’s name is derived from the Maltese word “Xewk”, meaning "thistles", suggesting the area was once covered in them. Thistles are also Xewkija’s emblem.

Xewkija is known for its church, the Rotunda of Xewkija. It is the Seat of the Knights of the Order of St. John and was built from Maltese stone by local masons and craftsmen. It is not only the largest dome in Gozo, but one of the largest in the world, and this dome dominates the village.

Also interesting in Xewkija are the cart ruts coming from Borg Gharib, Mgarr ix-Xini, Ta' Cenc and Tas-Salvatur. Xewkija’s closet bay is Mgarr ix-Xini, one of Gozo’s most beautiful spots.
