ABOUT RABAT

This large town on the outskirts of Mdina is a commercial centre and acts as a market to its large agricultural hinterland. It is also well established on the tourist map due to its archaeological and historical sites: the Roman Domus (Villa), St Paul’s and St Agatha’s Catacombs and several fine churches and monasteries. Biblical stories tell of St Paul residing in these catacombs when shipwrecked on Malta in approximately 60 AD.

Parts of Rabat were built on top of an ancient Roman city. The town was also used by Steven Spielberg as a location for some scenes in his film ‘Munich’. There are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants.
